Coaching for College finished 9th place out of 74 non-profits nationally and raised a total of $7695 to provide support to our Summer Opportunities Initiative.  This made it possible to send 3 students to summer programs at Yale University and Princeton University as well as provide support to many students locally during their summer internships.  Please visit

2008-2009 Program Kick-off

Coaching for College kicked off its tenth school year at Shaw Middle School on September 20, 2008. Both new and returning students, their parents and coaches came together for the Fall Kick-off Event, which included food, fun, and information on activities planned for the coming year. Director Nisha Sachdev shared an overview of Coaching for College, saying “We are looking forward to a successful year. We are happy to see the many returning students from last year and look forward to working with the new students.”

Sarah Rosen Student of the Year Award Ceremony

On August 6, 2008 Kilpatrick Stockton’s Washington, DC Office along with Coaching for College recognized Melondie Jackson, the recipient of the Third Annual Sarah Rosen Student of the Year Award. Coaching for College established the Sarah Rosen Student of the Year Award as a tribute to one of the organization’s most committed volunteers, Sarah Rosen, after her untimely death. This year, Coaching for College, along with Sarah’s family, who generously support the award, presented Melondie with a $500 U.S. Savings Bond and $100 check as the third Sarah Rosen award winner. Melondie is a senior at McKinley Technology High School.
